Summary

A journey to the kingdom of dragons, a star-crossed love, and a cursed pearl with the power to mend the world or break it。。。

Princess Shiori made a deathbed promise to return the dragon's pearl to its rightful owner, but keeping that promise is more dangerous than she ever imagined。

She must journey to the kingdom of dragons, navigate political intrigue among humans and dragons alike, fend off thieves who covet the pearl for themselves and will go to any lengths to get it, all while cultivating the appearance of a perfect princess to dissuade those who would see her burned at the stake for the magic that runs in her blood。

The pearl itself is no ordinary cargo; it thrums with malevolent power, jumping to Shiori's aid one minute, and betraying her the next—threatening to shatter her family and sever the thread of fate that binds her to her true love, Takkan。 It will take every ounce of strength Shiori can muster to defend the life and the love she's fought so hard to win。

Disappointment。 Multiple plots。 Main character was in the water for half of the book, just for it to mean nothing for the other half。 I️ was bored really the entire way。 Shiori was careless and damsel in distress most of the time。 2 stars for this one。 Read the first book though。

honestly…this was a veryyy mediocre sequel to an absolutely incredible book that i love very much。。 disappointed is an understatement。 i will be pretending it’s beautiful predecessor, “six crimson cranes”, is a stand-alone from this point forward <3

Let’s start off with that we all know the real MVP is Seryu! He truly loves Shiori and it was a shame they weren’t the end game。I absolutely adored this series! This is the first series I read by this author and it was so worth it。 All the characters were endearing and, going back to Sox Crimson Cranes a bit, I loved the villain to protector role that Raikama played。 Her backstory was perfection。 Shiori did frustrate me at times, but in the end I couldn’t help but loving her。 Everyone just felt Let’s start off with that we all know the real MVP is Seryu! You ever read a sequel that just feels so pointless?

I loved Six Crimson Cranes so much I couldnt wait for this one。 And the first half was really cool in the dragon world with Seryu。 But once we returned to the shore? Things got really boring。 I stopped enjoying Shiori as the protagonist。 Despite all that she went through, she still walks around without a care to her actions。 I was hoping for more interactions with her and her brothers but we spend most of the time with Takkan。 He isn't a bad character, but he's cliche and boring。 The second half I loved Six Crimson Cranes so much I couldnt wait for this one。 And the first half was really cool in the dragon world with Seryu。 But once we returned to the shore? I'm unsure why it was written this way。 And the ending felt WAY too conveniently wrapped up。 It was an okay book, but the first one was way better and could've just ended there。 。。。more

I really wanted to love this book this was one of my most anticipated releases of this year。 I absolutely loved six crimson cranes but this just didn’t hit the same。 For a book called the dragons promise I expected Seryu to have a dominant role in this book and we all love him。 Unfortunately there wasn’t enough of him, the dragon kingdom part should have been the main part of the book! Shiori felt a bit annoying in the first part, it felt out of character for me。 The book felt too tied to the bl I really wanted to love this book this was one of my most anticipated releases of this year。 I absolutely loved six crimson cranes but this just didn’t hit the same。 For a book called the dragons promise I expected Seryu to have a dominant role in this book and we all love him。 Unfortunately there wasn’t enough of him, the dragon kingdom part should have been the main part of the book! Shiori felt a bit annoying in the first part, it felt out of character for me。 The book felt too tied to the blood of the stars duology like if you haven’t read that duology this book would be confusing。 It felt too similar where I found myself bored。 The events felt too similar where Bandur and Gen were brought up, it felt too MCU。 I totally understand that the books take place in the same world but I just didn’t vibe with it。 The only thing that kept me reading was the well-being of Takkan and Shiroi。 They were cute but Shiroi x Seryu 💔 also the last 80 pages felt so dragged out like I was fighting to finish。 What made six crimson cranes so extraordinary was it’s creativity, magic, and originality。 This has the same exact feel of Unravel the Dusk, dragged out。 If this was an author I didn’t love this would probably been a 2。5 star but I love Lim and her writing so it’s a 3。 Her first books are masterpieces but the second ones always tend to be just okay, I would love to see Lim write a stand alone! 。。。more

This was a bit of a disappointing follow-up to a book I absolutely loved。 It's too long by about 2/3, meandering, and repetitive in ways that mean it loses steam multiple times。 Shiori is a great character, though, and I love that Lim picked a lesser-known folk tale to reimagine。 Plus, talking dragons, snakes, and paper birds are never bad things in books。 This was a bit of a disappointing follow-up to a book I absolutely loved。 It's too long by about 2/3, meandering, and repetitive in ways that mean it loses steam multiple times。 Shiori is a great character, though, and I love that Lim picked a lesser-known folk tale to reimagine。 Plus, talking dragons, snakes, and paper birds are never bad things in books。 。。。more

I want there to be more。 The ending to this book, while full of love, light and happiness, also left me with an aching。 What's next? Without giving away any spoilers, I had sort of expected MORE to happen by the end of The Dragon's Promise, which leaves me to ask if this will be a trilogy? Unlike Six Crimson Cranes, The Dragon's Promise felt rushed, severely so。 Not to the point where I thought the book was bad, not at all, but it did leave me wanting。 So many open ended details are left for us I want there to be more。 The ending to this book, while full of love, light and happiness, also left me with an aching。 What's next? This was a lovely duology。 It was a casual read for me, which did not require a lot of mental effort to follow, and was relatively linear and straightforward。 I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it as a palate cleanser between more involved titles。 It was refreshing and mystical all at the same time。

Shiori continues her journey in trying to find the rightful owner of the dragon pearl she now posseses。 A fantastical quest to the Dragon realm, back home, and then to the birthplace of demons, Elizabeth Lim does not disappoint in the second half of this duology。 I was so happy to finally read this。 Shiori is such a brave main character。 There was a couple times I was angry at her choices and had to put the book down, but I understand her motivation behind them。 I don't think I've ever anticipat Shiori continues her journey in trying to find the rightful owner of the dragon pearl she now posseses。 A fantastical quest to the Dragon realm, back home, and then to the birthplace of demons, Elizabeth Lim does not disappoint in the second half of this duology。 I was so happy to finally read this。 Shiori is such a brave main character。 There was a couple times I was angry at her choices and had to put the book down, but I understand her motivation behind them。 I don't think I've ever anticipated the kiss so much。 This is a truly wondrous tale。 I highly recommend this, especially if you have read Six Crimson Cranes。 。。。more
